چکیده

This paper seeks to illustrate how the basic theory of performance frontiers proposed by Schmenner and Swink wSchmenner, R.L., and Swink, M.L., 1998. On theory in operations management. Journal of Operations Management, 17, x 97–113 can be extended to apply to a broader range of operations management issues. It extends the scope of the proposed theory to include a ‘‘between-firm’’ level analysis which can be useful in assessing a firm’s competitive position and for strategic decision making. In addition, this paper provides a link between the resource-based view of organizations that has gained some prominence in the strategy literature and the proposed theory of performance frontiers. This paper argues that the operating frontiers of organizations represent unique resources and they are more important than the asset frontiers in achieving a competitive advantage because these unique resources are valuable, rare and specific to a given firm, and they are difficult to replicate. Future research directions and research methods focusing on the internal resources of competitive advantage are also discussed. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A new approach based on data envelopment analysis with double frontiers for ranking the discovered rules from data mining

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a relatively new data oriented approach to evaluate performance of a set of peer entities called decision-making units (DMUs) that convert multiple inputs into multiple outputs. Within a relative limited period, DEA has been converted into a strong quantitative and analytical tool to measure and evaluate performance. In an article written by Toloo et al. (2009...

Fuzzy Efficiency Measures in DEA: A New Approach based on Fuzzy DEA Approach with Double Frontiers

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a method to measure relative efficiency of a set of decision-making units (DMUs) which uses multiple inputs and produces multiple outputs. In the conventional DEA, crisp inputs and outputs are fundamentally necessary. But the observed values of inputs and outputs in real-world problems are sometimes imprecise. Thus, performance measurement often needs to be do...

Integrating information of the efficient and anti-efficient frontiers in DEA analysis to assess location of solar plants: A case study in Iran

The solar photovoltaic (PV) energy is one of the most promising sources of energy, which has attracted many interests. Itis potentially the largest source of energy in the world and is capable to mitigategreenhouse gas (GHG) emissions significantly in comparison with fossil fuels.Location optimization of solar plants can play a vital role to rise the efficiency and performance of the solar PV s...

Determining the Best Performance Time Period of a System

The main purpose of this paper is to determine the best performance time period of a system, consisting some DMUs, among some sequential time periods. This aim is satised by two proposed algorithms, the rst based on global Malmquist Productivity Index and the second is based on PPS frontiers.

An Improvement for Efficiency Interval: Efficient and Inefficient Frontiers

The performances of decision-making units (DMUs) can be evaluated from two different points of view optimistic and pessimistic and accordingly, two different efficiencies can be calculated for each DMU: the best relative efficiency and the worst relative efficiency. In the conventional methods of data envelopment analysis (DEA), only the best relative efficiency is evaluated. It is argued h...
